One day after dropping the Clovis Pioneers from the 2011 lineup, the Pecos League is scheduling a preview of what it hopes could be a launching point to its inclusion in the independent league in 2012.
Commissioner Andrew Dunn said Clovis is the scheduled host for a three-game regular season series between the Carlsbad Bats and the Alpine Cowboys.
The series is scheduled for June 19-21, with the park to be determined.
“A lot of people expressed disappointment,” Dunn said. “This will give us an indication to see how significant the interest is (from Clovis residents).”
The league pulled association with the Pioneers Monday afternoon, replacing them on the league website with the Ruidoso Osos.
The Osos will start their 68-game schedule in Clovis’ old position — May 10, hosting the Roswell Invaders.
The original Clovis Pioneers, who played in the 1930s, ’40s and ’50s, enjoyed affiliations with the Cleveland Indians, Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds.
Teams in the Pecos League include Roswell, Ruidoso, Alpine, Carlsbad, the Las Cruces Vaqueros and the White Sands (Alamogordo) Pupfish.
