Investigator recognized by U.S. Attorney’s Office
Curry County Sheriff’s investigator Phil Caroland was recognized by the U.S. Attorney’s Office Wednesday for his work with Internet crimes against children.
According to a letter from U.S. Attorney Kenneth Gonzales, Caroland “is a pillar in this important area of criminal investigation and his tenacity has resulted in the arrest of many offenders and stopped them from victimizing children.”
Through his investigations, Caroland engages in online chatting and undercover work to flush out predators, a specialized and time-consuming endeavor, Gonzales said.
Caroland has been with the sheriff’s office since 2007. He has also been with the agency’s Internet Crimes Against Children unit since its inception, investigating approximately 34 predators, according to Undersheriff Wesley Waller.
