PORTALES, N.M.— The Eastern New Mexico University football team received great news this week, as career touchdown reception leader Jessie Poku (Sr., WR, Murphy, Texas/Richardson HS) has been invited to participate in the 2011 Cactus Bowl, which will be played on Friday, January 7, at 6 p.m. MST, at Javelina Stadium in Kingsville, Texas.
Poku is a three-time All-Lone Star Conference player, capturing first team honors in the north division for his play during the 2010 season and in the south division last season. He concluded his career holding the Greyhound career records for receptions (213), receiving yards (2,548) and receiving touchdowns (26). Poku’s 86 catches during the 2010 campaign also eclipsed Eastern’s single-season record.
Playing in Javelina Stadium won’t be a new experience for Poku, as he hauled in four passes for 42 yards as a freshman, during the 2007 season, while ENMU was still running the triple option offense.
