Volunteers are being sought to launch a GED program for inmates at the Curry County jail.
The program is possible through the recent donation of GED literature, according to a press release.
Volunteers are needed to tutor inmates in reading, writing and math. Instruction will be conducted in small groups and one-on-one. Inmates are expected to maintain classroom behavior, attendance and complete assignments, the release said.
The program attempts to help inmates gain tools needed to seek higher education, the release said, and hopefully help to reduce recidivism.
The program is set to begin in February with volunteer screening to begin immediately.
