Everybody’s business: Adviser recognized for work

Jonnie Loadwick, marketing specialist business advisor, was recognized recently for 15 years of service to the Small Business Development Center at Clovis Community College.

She was originally hired as the department secretary, eventually took on the duties of marketing specialist, and gradually worked into advisor status where she focuses mostly on business advising.

She is a previous business owner and shares her expertise with potential and existing business owners. In addition to one-on-one advising services to clients, she presents or co-presents a variety of seminars.

Jonnie is the center’s point person for food service businesses, government procurement clients, and assistance with various Small Business Administration (SBA) certification processes. She is also certified to teach NxLevel classes.

Jonnie has achieved New Mexico Small Business Development Center (NMSBDC) Certified Support Specialist and business analyst certifications. Her education includes a bachelor’s degree in Information technology and a master of education in business specializing in human resource development.

In recognition of her dedication and service, Jonnie was the first support staff person in New Mexico to receive the prestigious New Mexico Small Business Development Center (NMSBDC) Network Estrella Award.

Her community and NMSBDC involvement has included serving on college advisory and employee councils, the Clovis Retail Committee, several Rural Economic Development Forum Committees, and the NMSBDC Professional Development and Marketing committees. She also ushers for many Clovis Community College cultural arts events.

Her personal hobbies include grandchildren, computers, cake-decorating, and working with her church family. She has had a long term involvement in a ladies Bible class, has served as a church kitchen manager, published a weekly printed and screen-view church bulletin, and published several pictorial church directories.

Jonnie loves her job because it gives her the opportunity to use her skills and experiences to help people. She is proud to be a member of the NMSBDC.

Jonnie’s advice to business owners is to make reading and analyzing their monthly business financial statements a priority so they always know where their business stands financially. Business owners also need to keep their customer’s needs and wants in mind, and actively work toward supplying those things in a timely and cost effective way.
