A Bailey County, Texas, detention officer is on leave pending an investigation into allegations he engaged in sexual relations with a female inmate and brought contraband into the jail.

Sheriff Richard Wills said Tuesday after he was “informed of some accusations against a jailer.” The officer in question was placed on leave and Texas Rangers were called to conduct the investigation

Wills declined to comment on specifics of the case and said no charges had been filed.

The Bailey County Jail, located in Muleshoe, falls under Wills’ command. He said that led him to call in the Texas Rangers to conduct the investigation, rather than conduct the investigation himself.

“We just want to be sure it’s investigated properly and that we don’t interfere,” he said.
