American Idol hit Melinda Doolittle takes the stage Saturday in Clovis.
With a voice described as big and soulful, the sixth season finalist of the popular TV show is performing as part of Clovis Community College’s Cultural Arts Series.
As a child, Doolittle was tone-deaf and was asked by a choir teacher to silently move her mouth but not sing aloud. By middle school she stunned an audience with her singing, according to a press release.
In 2009, Doolittle released her debut album, “Coming Back to You,” which garnered rave reviews, the release said.
Doolittle has performed at the White House, Musicians Hall of Fame, Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall and recently authored an inspirational book.
The performance begins at 7 p.m. at Marshall Auditorium. Tickets are $20, general admission and $15 for military, students and seniors.
Tickets can be purchased at the CCC cashiers window, Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce, Cannon Air Force Base’s ITT office and at the performance, subject to availability.
