CANYON, TEXAS — West Texas A&M scored three goals in the final 15 minutes and beat Eastern New Mexico University 3-0 on Wednesday in a Lone Star Conference men’s soccer match.
Dominic Furness scored twice for the Buffaloes (8-5-1, 2-3 LSC) with the final score coming on a penalty kick with 3:41 left in the game.
It was the second straight loss for the Hounds, who climbed to No. 17 in the national rankings three weeks ago on the strength of a five-game win streak. Since then the Hounds are 1-4-2 in their last seven matches.
West Texas A&M entered the contest ranked fifth in the latest NSCAA/Hendrickcars.com South Central region poll. The Hounds (8-5-2, 2-2-1) came in seventh.
The teams split their season series, with ENMU earning a 2-1 overtime decision at home.
The game remained scoreless well into the second period.
With 14:37 left in regulation, Ben Everson beat a defender and tallied his sixth goal of the season, giving WT a 1-0 lead. Furness followed with his eighth and ninth goals of the season.
