Groundbreaking for a $5.5 million runway and taxiway extension at the Clovis Municipal Airport is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the airport terminal building, located six miles east of Clovis on State Highway 523.
Representatives from federal, state and city agencies are expected.
The project — funded by grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration, New Mexico Department of Transportation, Aviation Division and funding by the City of Clovis — consists of a 1,800 foot extension of Runway 4-22 and Taxiway A to the northeast, improvements to the Runway Safety Area, the installation of a Porous Friction Course surface to the entire length of Runway 4-22 and the remarking of Runway 12-30.
When complete, Runway 4-22 will be 7,200 feet long to better serve corporate jets and allow regional jet service at Clovis.
Construction is anticipated to be completed by October 2011.
