Press release: Police arrest two in stabbing case

Two local Clovis men identified as 24 year-old Kenneth Lamar Nash and 25 year-old Angelo Vargas were arrested Monday morning, September 27, 2010 on charges of Felony Aggravated Battery and Felony Aggravated Burglary stemming from a burglary and stabbing incident at Clovis Apartments on the afternoon of September 18, 2010.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. on September 18, 2010 on-call Clovis Police Detectives were dispatched to the Clovis Apartments at the request of on-scene Officers in reference to a stabbing and burglary incident they were investigating that had taken place some time around 4:00 pm. The investigation revealed that suspects Angelo Vargas and Kenneth Lamar Nash forced entry into victim Eric Lundgren’s apartment after placing a hand over the peep hole and Eric Lundgren opened the apartment door to see who was there. According to victim Eric Lundgren suspects Vargas and Nash began punching and hitting him and attempted to strangle him at which time Eric Lundgren armed himself with a kitchen knife that was on the floor of his apartment and began stabbing at Vargas with the knife to stop the attack, causing some stab wounds to suspect Angelo Vargas. Eric Lundgren stated that at some point suspect Nash let go of him and left the apartment and suspect Vargas took the knife from him and stabbed victim Lundgren in the face, buttocks, arm and leg. Victim Eric Lundgren was able to escape by exiting the apartment through a back window and running to another apartment to call for help.

The stabbing victim Eric Lundgren was flown to a Lubbock hospital for treatment of knife wounds and cuts and a broken bone in his lower back and later released from the hospital the next day. Suspect Angelo Vargas was treated for stab wounds and released from Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.

Twenty-five year-old Angelo Vargas is being held at the Curry County Adult Detention Center on a $35,000 Cash bond on one count of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon and one count of Aggravated Burglary. Twenty-four year-old Kenneth Lamar Nash is being held at the Curry County Adult Detention Center on a $35,000 Cash bond on one count of Accessory to Commit Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon and one count of Accessory to Commit Aggravated Burglary.
