The Clovis Wildcats rushed and defended their way to ending a three-game skid, dominating visiting Rio Rancho 28-7 at Leon Williams Stadium.
Quran Wiggins rushed 21 times for 222 yards and all four touchdowns for Clovis (2-3), which otherwise did it with defense. The visiting Rams (1-4) were held to 148 yards on the night, and only 44 on the ground.
Rio Rancho got its lone touchdown early in the second quarter on Tim Foley’s 40-yard burst up the middle.
Wiggins scored on first-quarter rushes of 7 and 4 yards, then went for long-distance scores of 82 and 58 yards in the third quarter.
Senior Raymond Beachum rushed 14 times for 96 yards for Clovis, which faces Goddard on the road next week. The two-time defending 4A champs defeated Portales 42-0 at Greyhound Stadium.
