A 35-year-old Clovis man was killed in a single-vehicle crash near Carlsbad Sunday afternoon, which also critically injured his 11-year-old passenger.
Juan Castillo was driving his 2000 Isuzu Rodeo east on US 62/180, east of Carlsbad, when his vehicle traveled into the median, according to a press release from state police.
Castillo overcorrected and lost control, causing the vehicle to slide and roll, coming to rest on its wheels, the release said.
Castillo was pronounced dead at the scene.
Giselle Guerrero was transported to Carlsbad Medical Center where she was in critical condition.
State police cited excessive speed, driver inattention and alcohol as factors which contributed to the crash, the release said.
