Press release: Public invited to see exploratory deep well

Clovis, NM (July 27, 2010) – New Mexico American Water is hosting a public site visit for its deep exploratory well into the Lower Dockum Formation, which lies more than 1,600 feet below the city of Clovis.

The Lower Dockum Formation may provide an additional supply of water to help bridge the gap between the dwindling supplies in the Ogallala Aquifer and the anticipated construction of the Ute Pipeline by the Eastern New Mexico Rural Authority. The $900,000 exploratory well will enable the company’s hydrologist and engineers to determine the quantity and quality of the water in the aquifer, which has never been explored before in New Mexico. The company has enlisted the assistance of the Office of the State Engineer and the City of Clovis for this unprecedented undertaking.
