A Clovis High School student was arrested Monday on charges of child exploitation and possession of child pornography.

Shawn Peterson, 18, is charged with five felony counts of sexual exploitation of children and five counts of possession of child pornography, according to Curry County Undersheriff Wesley Waller.

He is being held at the jail in lieu of $25,000 bond, Waller said.

Peterson was arrested after sheriff’s investigators conducted a search of his computer at his home in the 800 block of Collins Avenue and discovered images of prepubescent children engaged in sexual acts, Waller said.

A preliminary scan of his computer was halted after the five images were found and the computer was seized for a complete forensic scan, Waller said.
