PORTALES — Eastern New Mexico University senior Alex Mayo Otis has been selected First Team ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 6 for her performance in the role of designated player and in the classroom during the 2010 season.

The Phoenix native was a second-team selection last season in addition to making the Lone Star Conference South Division all-academic team.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale, play in a minimum of half of the team’s contests and have been on the team at the institution for a minimum of a year.

Mayo Otis, a health and physical education major with a minor in athletic training, set an ENMU career record with 275 hits and compiled the fifth-best batting average (.399) in team history. Over her 690 at bats, she has struck out just 20 times, including an NCAA-low two during the 2009 season.

She earned some version of All-LSC South honors in each of her four seasons at ENMU.
