Police bust Clovis cock fighting ring

Clovis – Through a tip, the New Mexico State Police scrambled resources and busted up a Cock Fighting Ring in Eastern, NM. The tip lead to over 90 Arrests, Seized 52 Roosters, Cocaine, Marijuana and additional narcotics used on the animals.

Yesterday evening a tipster came forward to State Police in Clovis and provided information on a “large event”. State Police Officers and Agents with the Special Investigations Division went in undercover and quickly confirmed the tip. Clovis PD, Curry County SO and State Police Officers surrounded the area and began a process that took them into the early morning hour today.

The well-organized operation was held in a barn at 3100 West Brady in Clovis. Additional items seized were documents showing the elaborate operation had been in motion for some time, on scene was a cock-fighting rink, liquor, holding pins, concession stand and numerous record books.

Facing felony charges in the operation are; Guillermo Viveros-Garcia 6-29-66 (property owner), Asuncion Mercado 11-19-59 (bookie), Jesus Figueroa 6-13-69, and Francisco Lopez 1-10-64. These four were booked into the Curry County Detention Center without incident while the rest (patrons) were released after receiving a misdemeanor criminal summons.
