Sandra Bousquet, a 36-year-old Clovis woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck, died Tuesday night at a Lubbock hospital from her injuries.

District Attorney Matt Chandler said Wednesday morning his office is preparing a warrant to charge her neighbor, James Fitzpatrick, 61, with an open count of murder in the case.

Fitzpatrick is being held at the Curry County Adult Detention Center on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, three counts of aggravated assault and felon in possession of a firearm in connection with the shooting.

Police said he shot Bousquet in her home Feb. 3 during a dispute over money.

Chandler said he will present the murder charge to a grand jury.

Bousquet, who has been hospitalized for a month, was paralyzed by the shooting and struggling against an infection attacking her organs, family members said last week.
