Lockwood Elementary honored

Lockwood Elementary School was one of 32 schools given the 2009-2010 Title III Incentive Award by the New Mexico Department of Education, according to a news release.

The schools were awarded because of their strong bilingual education programs that have helped English language learners move toward proficiency in English and made academic progress, the release said.

Schools were selected based on the 2008-2009 Annual Measurable Achievement Objectives for English Language Learners based on the New Mexico Education Language Proficiency assessment and Standards Based Assessment in reading and math, the implementation of short cycle assessment, professional development of staff, and parent involvement, according to the release.
