A 29-year-old Clovis man who attacked two detention officers with a handmade shank was sentenced Wednesday to serve 24 years imprisonment.

Guadalupe Urquizo received the maximum sentence and is facing an additional four years if found to be a habitual offender, according to a press release from the district attorney’s office.

A jury convicted Urquizo in October of attempted murder, two counts aggravated battery on a peace officer and possession of a deadly weapon by a prisoner.

Urquizo, an inmate at the Curry Count Adult Detention Center, attacked the two officers in October 2008 with a seven-inch metal handmade knife, injuring them, the release said.
