The Clovis City Commission met in special session Wednesday at City Hall.
Both items on the agenda were approved unanimously.
Seven commissioners were present. Commissioner Juan Garza did not attend the 10 a.m. meeting.
• A change order for construction at the Wellness Center. City Purchasing Agent David Boswell said a water line had to be moved to allow construction work to continue on Phase I.
The additional cost of $7,386.30 — already covered — was defrayed by other various changes to the plans, Boswell said.
• A Community Development Block Grant application for a project on Pile Street.
One bid was received for road improvements and Americans with Disabilities Act compliance. The city wanted to do work from Grand Avenue to Commerce Way, but the only bid exceeded the budgeted $680,000.
Boswell said an incremental bid for $712,000 was received to complete the work from Eighth Street to Commerce Way.
The additional funds came from a December transfer to the special streets fund.
After adjournment, Commissioner Bobby Sandoval asked the audience to stay seated. Into the meeting room came a choir from Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and city personnel with a cake to celebrate Commissioner Isidro Garcia’s 80th birthday.
Fire department personnel were on hand. Garcia successfully blew out all 80 candles, impressing a few commissioners.
