Clovis breezes in district opener

Freedom New Mexico

Clovis went to the air, and grounded the Carlsbad Cavemen in the process.
Senior Kyler Brewer-Hill threw for 146 yards and three of Clovis’ four touchdown passes on the night, and ran a quarterback sneak for a touchdown on another Wildcat drive in a 42-7 win in Friday night’s District 4-5A game at Leon Williams.
The fourth-straight win for Clovis (7-2, 1-0 district) sets up next Friday’s game at Hobbs as a district championship game. The Eagles (3-6, 1-0), idle this week, defeated Carlsbad 49-28 last week.
Brewer-Hill completed a pair of touchdown passes to Quran Wiggins, including a 66-yard toss up the middle to tie the game following Carlsbad’s opening score — a 17-yard toss from Jacob Galindo to Matt Enloe.
Wiggins also scored on a 24-yard reception in the second half and rushed for 138 yards on the night. Senior tight end Richie Chavez caught a pair of scoring passes — a 6-yard toss from junior Jordan Hill in the first quarter and an 8-yard reception from Brewer-Hill with 19 seconds left in the first half.
Travis Davis scored Clovis’ other touchdown on a 13-yard run in the fourth quarter to push the game to a running clock.
Galindo completed 13-of-21 for 121 yards for the Cavemen (4-6, 0-2).
