Group collecting supplies for military personnel

The 73rd SOS Wombat Wives Group is collecting personal supplies for wounded servicemen and women starting at 9 a.m. Saturday at Wal-Mart in Clovis.

Donated supplies will be part of Soldiers’ Angels First Response Backpacks for patients at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany and Kleber outpatient barracks, according to information from the wives group.

Wounded personnel are often transported so quickly their personal items never catch up with them, and a surge of patients has caused an urgent need of donations, according to the group.

Items needed include phone cards; toiletries; underwear, socks, T-shirts and sweats in large or extra large sizes; snack food and microwave meals that don’t need refrigeration; and solid-color, twin-sized blankets.
