An office for an executive director/planner for the Local Growth Management Committee will be in Portales if the committee is awarded a federal grant.
The decision was made during a committee meeting Tuesday at Clovis City Hall. The committee is comprised of representatives from Clovis and Portales.
The position, which would be paid for under a $112,500 grant from the U.S. Office of Economic Adjustment, would be housed in Portales’ Memorial Building if the committee receives the grant.
According to a budget worked out at the meeting, the position would pay $70,000 a year with another $20,000 for a part-time administrative assistant and $35,000 for office equipment, furniture, travel and office supplies.
Clovis’ Community Development Director Claire Burroughes said the budget is part of the grant application process.
The $12,500 beyond what the grant provides is drawn from matching funds contributed by Curry and Roosevelt counties, Clovis and Portales.
Portales has also agreed to act as the fiscal agent, overseeing the grant money after Curry County Commissioner Wendell Bostwick told committee members it would be best if Curry County “bowed out” because it is already managing one OEA grant of its own.
The executive director — yet to be hired — would be considered a portable position, with the person spending most of his or her time traveling among Clovis, Portales and Cannon Air Force Base as needed, committee members agreed.
There was no discussion of when the position would be filled.
The committee’s purpose is to evaluate and deal with issues pertaining to local growth tied to Cannon Air Force Base.
