LAKEWOOD, Colo. — Junior forward Emerson Rodrigues scored twice in the final 10-plus minutes Friday, lifting the Eastern New Mexico University men’s soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Colorado Christian.
Rodrigues scored with 79:55 elapsed in the match, taking a pass from sophomore midfielder Tyler Hart and beating goalkeeper Jared Jacobs. He added the clinching goal with about 2 1/2 minutes left when he headed the ball into the net off a corner kick from junior midfielder Mychael Contreras.
The Greyhounds (2-1) dominated the match, outshotting the Cougars 28-6 overall and 14-3 in shots on goal. They also had 16 corner kicks to one for Colorado Christian (1-3).
ENMU freshman goalkeeper Alistar Caldwell made three saves in the match as the Hounds improved to 6-0 all-time against the Cougars.
The Hounds return to action on Sunday with a 1 p.m. match at Colorado-Colorado Springs. The team plays its home opener a week from today, hosting Howard Payne in a noon start at the ENMU pitch.
