Police are investigating a hit-and-run Wednesday that left a Clovis boy with a broken leg.

It happened in the alley behind the 100 block of Sandpiper around 5 p.m.

An 11-year-old boy was hit by a vehicle that left the scene, records show.

Audra Childers, 13, said she was among a group of youths who had taken different routes at the time of the crash.

The boy chose to ride his dirt bike motorcycle through the alley because he didn’t like riding it in the street, she said.

Childers said the group frequently rides their dirt bikes through the subdivision to a dirt mound nearby.

When his 9-year-old cousin, who was riding ahead of him, looked back and didn’t see him, he turned around and

found the boy on the ground, she said.

The boy told his companions a truck ran into him and drove off, she said.

Childers said the 11-year-old underwent emergency surgery in Lubbock for a broken leg and is expected to be released from the hospital Saturday.
