Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish is bringing the sights of Hawaii to Clovis for the annual Fiesta this weekend.
The parish hosts the event each year as the church’s main fundraiser. This year, the funds are earmarked for new pews for the sanctuary.
“Our pews squeak worse than our church mice,” Helen Martinez laughed.
Martinez, a member of the church and event organizer, said she can’t predict how much the event with raise or even how many people will attend because the outdoor event is heavily affected by the weather.
“When the weather is good, it’s good,” she said. “Even though much of the treats are aimed at the children, when it’s nice outside, the adults will be gobbling them up too.”
The Fiesta Luau begins Friday night with a slow smoked pork roast dinner and variety show. Saturday and Sunday will be filled with food and game booths, a car show, entertainment under the big tent, and arts and crafts.
Martinez said the event is intended to be “good, clean family fun” and that the event is non-alcoholic.
