Clovis High School band members were awarded 135 individual superior medals Feb. 7 at the New Mexico Music Educators Association Southeast District Instrumental Solo and Ensemble Festival held at CHS.
Band members received 13 superior solo ratings and all 10 ensembles received superior ratings.
Clovis High School trumpeter Alec Blazek was selected as a member of the All-state Jazz Band.
The Marshall Bands, directed by Kelli Morrison, received four superior solo ratings and three superior ensemble ratings and had a total medal count of 22. The Yucca Bands, directed by Keith Sacane, received eight superior solo ratings and three superior ensemble ratings and had a total medal count of 55. The Freshman Campus Bands, directed by Travis Pruitt, received three superior ensemble ratings and had a total medal count of 49.
The Yucca Choirs, directed by Tami Martin, received 32 superior solo ratings and 94 superior ensemble ratings. The Marshall Choirs, directed by Virginia Morrison, received 20 superior solo ratings and 48 ensemble medals. The New Mexico Music Educators Association Southeast Sub-District Vocal Solo and Ensemble Festival was held at CHS on Feb. 14.
The following CHS Bandsmen were selected by audition for the 2009 American Southwest Honor Bands. These students participated in competitive auditions in December and were competing for positions in the bands with students from throughout the Southwest, including West Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. The Southwest Honor Bands performed on Feb. 15 at New Mexico State University’s Recital Hall.

KCLV Radio is partnering with the New Mexico Broadcaster’s Foundation to award the Pete V. Domenici Character Counts! Scholarship, according to a news release.
The $1,300 scholarship is available to one area high school senior graduating in 2009 who will be attending any post secondary institution, vocational or university, in the fall of 2009.
Applications are available at the KCLV studios at 2112 N. Thornton in Clovis, or applicants can call 575-763-4401. Applications must be received by May 1, 2009. They can be dropped off at or mailed to the KCLV studios at 2112 N. Thornton in Clovis. A panel of KCLV employees will select the recipient by May 15, 2009.
