A 24-year-old Tucumcari man was charged Thursday with child abuse after Clovis hospital personnel reported suspicious injuries to an infant girl, according to a State Police news release.
Police responded to a call to Plains Regional Medical Center after a two-month old girl was admitted with injuries to her head and legs, according to the report.
The infant’s father, Matthew Johns, was arrested and charged with four counts of child abuse resulting in great bodily harm.
The child was reported in stable condition Friday, according to the report.
State Police Capt. Jimmy Glascock said the case is still under investigation.
Johns was being held at the Curry County Detention Center in lieu of $50,000 cash bond.
