DURANT, Okla. — Right fielder Zach Freeman went 3-for-4 and drove in
the go-ahead run in a four-run sixth inning with a squeeze bunt single
as Southeastern Oklahoma completed a sweep of its Lone Star Conference
baseball doubleheader against Eastern New Mexico University with a 6-2
victory on Friday.
The Savage Storm won the opener 3-1. The teams complete the four-game series with another 11 a.m. (MST) twin bill today.
The Greyhounds (7-5, 3-3 LSC) took a 2-1 lead in the nightcap on
Jeremy Johnson’s two-run homer in the top of the fifth, his first of
Nathan Johnson (1-0) worked eight innings for the win, allowing five
hits with five walks and five strikeouts for Southeastern. Solis gave
up 10 hits, walked three and struck out one in six innings.
Johnson went 3-for-5 for the Hounds, who finished with seven hits.
ENMU stranded 10 baserunners, leading the bases full in the eighth when
pinch-hitter Garrett Cook lined out to right field.
In the seven-inning opener, first baseman Trey Wingo had an RBI
single in the first, Pearce singled home a run in the second and the
Savage Storm (6-3, 3-3) made it 3-0 in the fifth with Freeman scoring
on a throwing error by ENMU shortstop Daniel Martinez.
The Hounds got on the board in the sixth against reliever Matt Hinds
when Freddy Carmona doubled to right, took third on a groundout and
scored on Paden Vendrely’s fielder’s choice grounder.
Hinds worked 2 2/3 innings in relief of starter Reece Dodd (3-0) to
earn his second save of the season. He entered with the bases loaded in
the fifth and induced Clayton Young to ground into a
first-to-home-to-first double play.
ENMU had five hits, led by second-baseman Chris Eaton with 2-for-3.
Junior Justin Cotten went the distance for ENMU, allowing seven hits
and only one earned run. The Hounds made four errors behind him.
