PORTALES — Eastern New Mexico University put together rallies in both games
Friday to sweep a pair of Lone Star Conference baseball games from
Northeastern State at Greyhound Field.

In the opener, ENMU (6-2 2-0 LSC) got a three-run triple from second
baseman Chris Eaton in the sixth to rescue a 5-3 win over the
RiverHawks. Then in the second game, the Greyhounds erased a 7-3
deficit with a six-run fourth and went ahead for good with a two-run
seventh in a 12-10 victory.

The teams complete the four-game set with a 1 p.m. doubleheader today.

Trailing 3-2 in the opener, Freddy Carmona drew a one-out walk off
RiverHawks starter Jacob Lago (0-1) in the sixth and took third on
Clayton Young’s double. Seth Clabaugh walked to load the bases before
Eaton cleared them with his shot up the right-center field alley.

Jerry Manning (1-0) pitched two shutout innings in relief of starter
Justin Cotten for the win. Eaton and Jeremy Johnson each went 2-for-3
for the Hounds.

In the second game, ENMU scored six runs on only three hits in the
fourth. The rally featured two-run singles from Johnson and Clabaugh,
the latter putting the Hounds in front 9-7.

Young’s RBI single in the sixth made it 10-7, but the Hounds left
the bases loaded. The RiverHawks (4-4, 0-2) rallied against reliever
Doug McIntyre with a two-run triple from Eric McKinney and a
run-scoring wild pitch.

The Hounds anwered in the bottom half against Corbun Frazier (0-1),
the third of five Northeastern pitchers. Two walks, a wild pitch and
Paden Vendrely’s run-scoring groundout put the Hounds in front, and
Carmona hit a two-out RBI single for an insurance run.

Evan Orsak worked around a walk and a bunt single in a scoreless
eighth, and Manning finished for his first save by setting the
RiverHawks down in order in the ninth.

Carmona went 3-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and two RBIs,
while Vendrely and Clabaugh each had two hits. Clabaugh drove in three
runs and Vendrely knocked in a pair.
