A 32-year-old Clovis woman whose three elementary school children missed school more than 20 times each last year has been sentenced to a parenting class and ordered to make sure the children are in class.

Court records show she pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of failure to enforce compulsory school attendance and will be required to ensure her children attend school, attend a 16-week parenting program and pay $167 in court costs.

A student with more than 10 unexcused absences in a school year is considered habitually truant.
