This is a report of Tuesday’s Public Works Committee special meeting:
The public works committee is recommending to the city commission to apply for a landfill permit renewal.
The permit renewal will consist of increasing the height of the landfill, using space for construction debris disposal and opening for four new cells, according to Public Works Director Clint Bunch.
He said the modifications will extend the life of the landfill.
The new permit will be valid for 20 years, he said.
An estimated cost of the landfill renewal is $619,200, according to Public Works Department Assistant Director Bill Kshir.
Bunch said engineering firm Camp Dresser and McGee determined the need to modify the landfill during a mid-term review of the city’s current 20-year landfill permit.
He said recommendation will be decided by city commissioners during Thursday’s City Commission meeting.
