Many residents are Texas Tech fans

Clovis football fans not only bleed Wildcat purple, but also a little Texas Tech scarlet and black mixed in. Well, maybe a lot.

Dee Madrid, who owns Sports Connection on Prince Street, said she sold out of Texas Tech merchandise before the game.

“I was bombarded Saturday,” Madrid said. “It was a madhouse.”

Texas Tech beat top-ranked Texas 39-33 Saturday in front of a national TV audience.

In the days before the game, Madrid said Texas Tech and Texas supporters bought loads of caps, T-shirts and sweatshirts.

Santiago Felis, who owns Paisano’s Place on Prince Street, said he’s noticed his Texas Tech merchandise sold better after Saturday’s game.

Madrid remained neutral in her support for Texas and Texas Tech. She just wanted to a see a good game.

“It was every bit of what we wanted it to be,” she said.
