A 34-year-old man is dead following a tractor accident near Farwell Thursday, according to Parmer County Sheriff Randy Geries.
Jason Crume died from injuries he sustained around 10:30 p.m. (CST) when he fell from a tractor he was driving and was struck by the machine’s rear wheels, Geries said.
Crume had been in the area of County Roads 4 and X north east of Farwell, using a tractor to pull some people in a vehicle out of the mud and was heading home when the accident occurred, Geries said.
“He was out there helping people,” he said.
Geries said his department is in the process of completing reports on the incident but preliminarily, it looks like a “tragic, tragic accident”, he said.
Crume was a Farwell resident who had previously lived in Clovis and was manager of Mesa Financial in Clovis for nearly two years, according to Suzanne Oswald.
Oswald, Mesa Financial assistant manager, said she has known Crume for years.
“We’re all in shock at the news because he was such a young man and you just don’t expect something like this to happen,” she said Friday.
Crume lived on a dirt road and Oswald said it was not uncommon for he and his neighbors to help each other when someone inevitably got stuck in the mud.
“He’d always help, he’d help anybody if he could,” she said, describing him as a good man who’d “never met a stranger”.
