Clovis Municipal Schools enrollment for the first two days were down slightly from last year, according to school officials.
On the first day of school, enrollment was about 7,530 students, down 41 students from last year. Thursday’s enrollment was 7,624, down 123 from a year ago.
David Briseno, executive director of community relations for Clovis Municipal Schools, cited several reasons for the decreased numbers. He said school started early this year and many students aren’t back from vacations or are spending their days at the county fair.
Briseno said that the numbers are increasing daily, however, due to continued late enrollment that can take a day or two.
He also said with more personnel being moved into Cannon Air Force Base, the enrollment figures would continue to grow.
