LOS LUNAS — The Clovis American All-Stars were eliminated from the state 11-12 Little League tournament Monday night with a 5-1 loss to White Rock.

Jarron Hill pitched a complete game for American in a losing effort, striking out nine. He also scored the team’s only run in the sixth when he reached on a fielder’s choice, took third on a double by John Myers and came home on a groundout by Mitchell Pinnell.

“Our kids hit the ball well, but mostly it was right at them,” said American manager Duwain Hill.

American was the third and final Clovis team playing in state Little League competition. On Sunday night, Zia dropped a 12-10 decision to Albuquerque Westgate in the losers bracket of the 9-10 tourney in Albuquerque.

Zia cut an 11-3 deficit after three innings to 11-10 in the fifth.

“We just made a lot of little errors that cost us the game,” Zia manager Rene Mendoza said. “We were evenly matched, but the ball just bounced their way.

“I was proud of the way they (Zia) came back.”

Keaton Greenwalt went 4-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs for Zia, while Andres Acuna was 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBIs and Joshua Rodriguez 2-for-4 with an RBI. Joseph Garcia and Eli Cordova shared pitching duties.
