Smith, the Rattlers’ head coach for 10 years, led the team to the state Class 2A title in 2002. Tucumcari was 5-6 last year.

Bill Rice is a registered nurse who coordinates Roosevelt General Hospital’s cardiology program. He spoke to Portales’ Rotary Club on Wednesday about the importance of staying “heart healthy.”

Rice reports:

• There are 60,000 miles of blood vessels in the human body.

• The human heart beats 100,000 times a day (3 trillion beats in a lifetime)

• Heart attacks occur more frequently in women than men.
