About 11 a.m. April 8 an officer responded to a residence in the 2000 block of Sheldon for a report of theft.
An 87-year-old woman sad she set her walking cane next to a bench in her driveway when she entered the house to answer the phone and it was gone a minute later when she returned.
The cane was valued around $25.
About 1 p.m. an officer was dispatched to the area of Ninth and Hull Streets for a battery in progress.
A witness reported seeing a man hitting and kicking a woman in the face.
The man told the officer he hit the woman because she hit him with a stick.
The officer documented several marks on the woman’s head and neck.
The woman said the man hit her but she didn’t want him to go to jail.
The man was arrested for battery on a household member.
