Clovis man convicted of sex abuse

A Clovis man faces almost 200 years imprisonment after being convicted Tuesday of sexually abusing two children, according to a press release from District Attorney Matt Chandler.

A Curry County jury deliberated approximately 30 minutes before finding Arnold Armenta, 40, guilty on 18 counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and one count criminal sexual penetration of a minor, the release said.

Two children reported they were abused by Armenta between December 2005 and January 2006. Armenta was arrested in August 2006 following an investigation by the Curry County Sheriff’s Office, the release said.

He was a convicted sex offender at the time the offenses were committed, the release said.
A sentencing hearing will be held in the next 30 to 60 days, according to the release.
