CANNON AIR FORCE BASE — The second day of testimony in the first-degree murder trial of Airman Basic Edward Novak II ended early Friday after two witnesses took the stand.

Chief Trial Judge for the Air Force Dawn Eflein, suffering from a cold, told the court in a hoarse voice she was not feeling well and needed to end the day around noon.

Prior to Eflein’s announcement, investigators from the Air Force Office of Special Investigations testified about the interview they conducted with Novak the night his wife was discovered in the couple’s base housing unit, subsequent interviews they conducted and their involvement in other aspects of the ensuing investigation.

Novak faces life in prison if convicted.

Kimberly Novak died Oct. 28, 2004. Military officials said she died from blunt force trauma and strangulation.
