LUBBOCK — Lubbock Christian got double-doubles from senior forward Carolyn Manning and junior guard Jordan Hampton and the Lady Chaps rolled to an 86-62 win over Eastern New Mexico University in a women’s exhibition basketball game.
The 6-foot-1 Manning finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds while the 5-10 Hampton added 11 points and 11 boards for the Lady Chaps, who lost at Abilene Christian 66-65 on Saturday. Reserve Severyn Smith, a 6-1 freshman forward, added 13 points.
LCU had only a 24-21 edge in field goals, but sank 33-of-39 free throws — including 11-of-13 for Manning — to 12-of-18 for the Zias.
Freshman guard Patricia Malouff led ENMU with 17 points and three assists. She made 5-of-8 field goals, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range.
The Zias open their regular season on Thursday against Dixie State in a three-team round-robin at Durango, Colo. ENMU faces host Fort Lewis the following night.
Hampton scored the game’s first five points on two free throws and a 3-pointer and the Lady Chaps never relinquished the lead. ENMU cut a 24-8 deficit to seven points twice early in the second half, but LCU went on a 15-2 run to take firm control of the game.
The Zias held Lubbock Christian to 28 percent shooting in the first half, but the Lady Chaps went 17-of-36 (47 percent in the final 20 minutes. ENMU shot 33 percent for the game on 21-of-64.
