LAREDO, Texas — Texas A&M-International scored three goals in a span of less than 14 minutes during the first half on Friday and the Dustdevils held on for a 3-2 men’s soccer victory over Eastern New Mexico University.
The loss was the second in a row by one goal for the Greyhounds (3-3), who also lost 3-2 at Northeastern State on Sunday in a Southwest Soccer Conference matchup.
Sophomore midfielder Ryan McClanahan put ENMU ahead in the 20th minute with his seventh goal of the season, breaking the school’s single-season record set last year by junior forward Jared Morris. Ironically, Morris assisted on the goal.
The Dustdevils (2-1-1) tied it three minutes later when Leonardo Calvo scored from close range. Adeyemi Gill gave International the lead less than 3 1/2 minutes later, scoring off a corner kick by Raul Quinones, then Gill worked a two-man play to set up Gregory Mulamba in the 36th minute.
The Hounds, who were blanked 3-0 by the Dustdevils last season in Portales, pulled close when sophomore midfielder Eric Perea scored his first collegiate goal in the 76th minute, with McClanahan getting the assist.
ENMU will play its fourth consecutive road match on Sunday in a noon (MDT) start against St. Mary’s in San Antonio.
