SEARCY, Ark. — The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team dropped its final two matches in the Harding Classic on Saturday, falling to Washburn 30-21, 30-18, 30-17 and to the host Lady Bison 30-27, 30-28, 30-23.

The Zias (3-11) went 0-4 for the weekend against teams which entered their matches against ENMU with a combined 30-8 record. Washburn (12-1) is ranked No. 12 in NCAA Division II.

ENMU had a 16-13 first-game lead before Washburn went on a 6-0 run to take the lead for good. The Lady Blues then controlled the next two games.

Tessa Jones had 15 kills and Mandi Cox 10 for Washburn. Senior outside hitter Jessie Macknicki and junior middle blocker Megan Weitz each had eight kills for the Zias, while Weitz also notched four total blocks.

The Zias opened an 8-3 lead and were ahead for much of the first game against Harding (8-3), but the Lady Bison took the lead for good 22-21 on one of Manuela Nesheva’s match-high 29 kills. ENMU led for much of the second game, but Harding scored the final three points — the last two on kills by Nesheva.

The Zias went in front 9-4 in Game 3 and stayed close until the Lady Bison finished the game with an 11-5 run.
