RIO RANCHO — Bryan Aragon scored on an assist by Isaias Miranda to pull Clovis High within 2-1 late in the half, but that was all the Wildcats could muster Saturday in a season-opening 4-1 boys soccer loss to Rio Rancho.

Mike Gonzales scored about 15 minutes into the match for the Rams. Kyle Stevenson added Rio Rancho’s next two goals, and Nico Muniz scored the clincher with about eight minutes left.

“We saw what we need to work on,” CHS boys coach Shaun Gill said. “I was proud of the guys for staying in there; they kept fighting and playing hard.”

Rio Rancho also took the junior varsity preliminary 7-1.
