Right now, the Hobbs Lady Eagles just seem to have Clovis’ number in softball.
Hobbs handed the Lady Wildcats 10-0 and 6-0 losses on Tuesday in Clovis’ summer opener at Lady Wildcat Complex.
Hobbs took three of four from the Lady Cats during the District 4-5A season, including a 4-0, 9-1 sweep at Hobbs three days after Clovis had beaten Carlsbad for the first time in the program’s history.
Lady Cats coach Brandi Thomas said Hobbs turned in solid pitching performances after losing their top two hurlers from the spring to graduation.
“We didn’t hit the ball very well, and when we did they made some good plays on us,” Thomas said.
The Lady Cats used five pitchers in the twin bill. Only four varsity players were available for the games.
“We’ve got a bunch of young kids on the field,” Thomas said. “That’s what summer’s for, to get some experience.”
Thomas said Vanessa Gallegos hit a double in the second game, while Kambry Jones and Nicole Anaya also hit several balls hard.
Clovis returns to action on Thursday with a 4 p.m. home twin bill against Roswell High.
