LAS CRUCES — Three Eastern New Mexico University athletes earned provisional qualifying marks for NCAA Division II track and field competition on Saturday in the New Mexico State Spring Classic.
Senior Zach Gerleve threw an even 200 feet to win in javelin, while runnerup Logan Capps also surpassed the qualifying standard with a throw of 197-6.
For the women, freshman Deidra Brown qualified by winning javelin at 133-5. She also won in discus at 121-3, and finished sixth in shot put at 36-11 1/2.
The men also got a win from freshman Jonathan Bull in shot put (43-9), while placing second were freshman Dennis Kerg in the 800 (1:58.69) and junior Nimrod Lelei in the 1,500 (4:12.34).
