CHS SOFTBALL: Lady Cats drop pair in Cruces tournament

LAS CRUCES — Clovis High’s softball team absorbed two losses on Friday in the 16-team Las Cruces Invitational.

The Lady Wildcats (3-3) were beaten by Cibola 9-1 in the first round, then dropped a 12-10 decisiion to Deming in a consolation quarterfinal.

Coach Brandi Thomas said errors plagued the Lady Cats in the two games. Lorena Garza doubled and scored on a single by Sonia Chavez to pull CHS to 2-1 in the fourth inning against Cibola, but the Cougars pulled away late.

Shaundra Mahan, Garza and Kim Lumsden had doubles and Kayla Merritt added a pair of singles against Deming.
