Retired Gen. Hanson Scott of Albuquerque has been appointed by Gov. Bill Richardson to a subcommittee formed to explore growth issues that may arise with the new mission at Cannon Air Force Base, according to a city of Clovis press release.

Hanson will serve as one of two state representatives on the Local Growth Management Organization.

“We are extremely pleased that General Scott will serve in this position,” said Clovis Mayor David Lansford, who serves as chairman of the Local Growth Management Committee, an oversight group of the Local Growth Management Organization.

“He brings with him a wealth of experience of Cannon Air Force Base needs,” Lansford said. “He was an invaluable asset to our area during ‘Operation Keep Cannon,’ and I have no doubt that he will continue to be of tremendous help as we move forward in addressing growth issues for eastern New Mexico.”

Clovis Realtor Gayla Brumfield was appointed earlier this year by Richardson as the other state representative on the Local Growth Management Organization, the release said.

The 16th Special Operations Wing is expected to assume control of Cannon in October.
