RIO RANCHO – Texico’s Faith Martin scored 15 points and Amanda Bass added eight to lead the Wolverines to a 52-27 victory over Eunice in the girls Class 2A quarterfinals Tuesday.

Texico (25-4) advances to the semifinal on Thursday, meeting Navajo Prep or Clayton.

Ahead 14-9 at the end of the first quarter, Texico dominated the second period, outscoring the Cardinals (18-9) by a 14-6 margin to lead by 13 points at the half.

Leslie Vannatta hit a basket early in the third quarter to put the Wolverine’s up 30-15, but Eunice’s Nakita Pickerel made a jump shot with 5:00 on the clock and making the most of three foul shots to put Eunice within 10 points.

But Texico got a layup from Bass, followed by a long 3-point shot by Bryn Mayfield. Eunice managed a jumper by Kynzi Davidson with little more than a minute left, but Bass hit another shot with 23 seconds left in the quarter to put Texico ahead 39-22.
