* With the No. 2 seed in the District 3-1A tourney on the line, Melrose juniors Toni Burdine and Kimberly Lyons each sank a free throw in the second overtime as the Lady Buffaloes beat Fort Sumner 34-33 at Melrose.

Senior Zanessa Dodd led all scorers with 15 points for Melrose (16-9, 5-3 district), and Taneil Roberts added seven.

Racheal Chavez scored eight points for the Vixens (14-8, 5-3), who let a seven-point lead slip away in the second half. Fort Sumner was relegated to the No. 3 seed by virtue of two losses to the Lady Buffs.

Fort Sumner went 3-for-10 from the free throw line in the first overtime. Dodd hit the second of two free throws with 1.6 seconds remaining to the force the second extra period.

* Texico, already assured the District 6-2A regular-season title, finished a perfect run through the district schedule with a 38-25 win at Santa Rosa.

the 6-2A district title and homefield advantage in the finals of the district tournament, Texico (22-4, 6-0) padded it’s win column with a 38-25 road win over Santa Rosa.

Junior Faith Martin scored 13 points and sophomore Amanda Bass added two 3-pointers and 10 points for the Lady Wolverines (22-4, 6-0), who host the tournament championship game at 6 p.m. next Saturday.

Senior guard Brittney Moncayo paced the Lady Lions (9-13, 2-4) with eight points.

Boys
* Fort Sumner got 22 points from sophomore Berry Stinnett and 14 from junior Cass Dimitroff and defeated Melrose 53-42 in District 3-1A.

The Foxes (10-13, 5-3), seeded third in next week’s district tournament, led 12-7 at the quarter and were never headed. Senior Eric Walker and juniors Adam Hairgrove and Aaron Hemminger scored eight points each for the Buffaloes (3-22, 1-7), the No. 5 seed in the five-team district.

Fort Sumner hosts Floyd and Melrose visits Elida in 6 p.m. first-round games on Tuesday.
